Introduction to International and Cross-cultural Education
Instructors: Hideto Fukudome, PhD (Professor, Dept. of University Management and Policy Studies/ CASEER, Graduate School of Education)
This course is offered as a school-wide course for all graduate students of the Graduate School of Education, not as a course specific to any particular department.
The students will attend lectures, seminars, and workshops. In addition, the participants will visit cultural institutions that foster understanding of different cultures and promote multilateral understanding.
本科目は、特定のコース向けに開講される科目ではなく、教育学研究科全体の共通科目として開講される。米国の大学関係者にゲスト講義を依頼し、講義とワークショップを受講する。また、異文化や多様性理解に資する文化施設を訪問し、多角的な理解を促進する。
In the class, international and cross-cultural education will be the central theme. At the same time, the class aims to deepen understanding of human diversity more broadly and to help students acquire a sense of citizenship (global citizenship) for building a society more inclusive of diverse people.
In addition to deepening theoretical understanding of different cultures, diversity, and social inclusion, students are expected to be aware of how to change their individual awareness and behavior. We will also emphasize dialogue among faculty members, guest lecturers, and students with related interests.
We welcome students willing to learn from and with others.
授業では、国際・異文化間教育を中心的テーマとする。合わせて、より広く、人間の多様性に対する理解を深め、多様な人々を包摂しうる社会の構築に向けた市民性（グローバル・シティズンシップ）の獲得を目的とする。こうした授業の狙いに基づき、異文化、多様性、社会的包摂に対する理論的理解を深めることはもとより、受講生個々人の意識や行動の変容につなげることを意識してもらいたい。また、関心を共有する教員、ゲスト講師、受講生間の対話を重視する。他者との学び合いを志向する学生の受講を歓迎する。

Course guidance sessions will be held in early April. Announcements will be made via the graduate student message board. Students considering registration should attend. If you are unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts, contact the instructor.
The intensive program will cover approximately the following topics. The order is subject to change.
Some preliminary sessions will be held in Japan before our trip to the U.S. Details will be announced as soon as possible.

***Course Orientation***
We will hold a course orientation on Friday, April 10, 2026, starting at 6:45 PM for approximately 1 hour.
The session will be conducted in a hybrid format. You may attend in person or online.

***Travel Period***
I plan to travel abroad for about a week from late January to early February 2027.
The destination is the United States (either Hawaii or California).
***Course Registration***
Since this is a year-long course, those considering taking it should register during the same period as for S1 and S2 term classes. If you are unable to travel abroad after registering, it will be treated as a withdrawal (no impact on your course transcripts). If you are considering taking this course, please be sure to register.

＜海外渡航時期について＞
2027年1月下旬から2月上旬に掛けて、一週間ほど海外に渡航する予定です。
渡航先はアメリカ合衆国です（ハワイ州、またはカリフォルニア州）。
＜履修登録について＞
本科目は通年科目のため、受講を検討している人はS1S2ターム授業と同じ時期に履修登録を行って下さい。履修登録後、海外渡航が不可になった場合、未受験の扱いとします。受講可能性がある人は必ず履修登録しておいて下さい。
