Comparative Philosophy of Education

Comparative Philosophy of Education
In this course, we will explore a range of philosophical themes from a comparative perspective, approaching philosophy as a fundamental inquiry into worldviews and ways of life. We will also examine the educational implications of key concepts—such as the self, virtue, moral dilemmas, human nature, and the limits of language—and consider how these ideas can be applied in our own teaching practice.

Through close readings of textbooks and scholarly articles on Asian philosophy written by English-speaking philosophers, we will engage with distinctive interpretations of Asian thought that draw on conceptual frameworks from Western philosophy. By critically reading and discussing these comparative philosophical works, students are expected to develop a rich and nuanced understanding of central ideas in both Eastern and Western philosophy.
