Media Regulation and Freedom of Expression: A Social Constructionist Perspective
This class will examine issues of media representation and discrimination, freedom and equality from the standpoint of sociology and social constructionism, using the pornography controversy in North America during the 1980s and 1990s as a case study. The first three (or four) lectures will outline sociological approaches to media representation. This will be followed by group discussions among participants on the current state of media regulation and representation, using the anti-pornography movement of second-wave feminism and the jurisprudential opposition to it.

授業計画
Week 1: Initial guidance + grouping Week 2-4: Lecture Week 5: Lecture (or preparation for discussion) Weeks 6-12: group discussion Week 13: Final report submission # lectures may be conducted online.　 # An essay will be assigned in each session after the 6th week.
授業の方法
After several lectures, students will be divided into groups to read and discuss the assigned literature. Based on the knowledge acquired in the class, students will set up a problem based on their own interests and write a final report.
成績評価方法
participation in group discussions, essay, final report [If you miss more than three group discussion sessions, your grade will be Failed, regardless of the reason.]
