応用日本語(4)生活会話(L2)

Applied Japanese (4) (PEAK)
This course is designed for students who have already acquired very basic communication skills. The aim of this course is to help students acquire communicative skills, especially listening and speaking skills,
using basic knowledge of Japanese which is necessary for on and off campus situations.
Specifically, by the end of the course, students are expected to be able to
1) communicate in a simple and direct exchange of information on social familiar matters,
2) put their acquired grammar and vocabulary knowledge into use with well-balanced accuracy, fluency and complexity,
3) express their own ideas and opinions effectively using simple expressions,
4) suit the manner of speech to the person, situation and topic properly,
5) understand basic words and phrases on familiar matters and understand the main ideas of a little complex messages,
6) learn communication strategies through interaction, and
7) develop self-monitoring of language use and autonomous learning abilities.

N.B. ALL classes (including the first session) will be conducted in person. The following course schedule may be subject to change. Week 1: Orientation, Talking about myself Week 2: Talking about weather Week 3: Going out with someone Week 4: Languages and cultures of other countries Week 5: Talking about your health Week 6: Celebrations and gatherings Week 7: Mid-Term Exam (Listening and Oral Interview Test) Week 8: Dinning out Week 9: Planning a trip Week 10: History and culture (preparation for presentation) Week 11: History and culture (presentation) Week 12: Casual Speech Week 13: Final Exam (Oral Interview Test)
授業の方法
Each session consists of introducing key expressions and conversation practice. During the introduction of key expressions, students receive explicit explanations of the vocabulary and expressions necessary for the conversations in that unit, and understand how these are used in actual conversation through listening practice. In conversation practice, students engage in role-plays using the key expressions they have learnt, create their own conversations, and present them to the class. After each session, task assignments (e.g. listening comprehension, consolidating key expressions) will be given.
成績評価方法
The performance on following items will be taken into account for the course grade: 1) Participation in class activities 2) Assignments 3) Oral performances (including presentations) 4) Quizzes 5) Exams Further details will be provided in the first class meeting.
履修上の注意
1) This course can ONLY be taken by the following groups of students: PEAK first-year G1, PEAK second-year, and KOMSTEP/USTEP L1 students ・In principle, the maximum number of students in this class is limited to fifteen. ・If enrolment exceeds capacity, priority is given to students who attend the first class meeting. Therefore, students interested in this class MUST ATTEND the first class meeting. ・Priority for registration will be given according to the students' status as follows: PEAK > KOMSTEP > USTEP 2) ALL classes (including the first class meeting on 9 April) will be conducted IN PESRSON. 3) Students are required to attend classes from THE VERY FIRST SESSION. Please note that even before official course registration, missing the initial few sessions will be COUNTED AS ABSENCES. 4) Quiz will start from 10:25AM sharp. Students must arrive in the classroom well in advance of the start of the quiz. 5) Due to the conversational nature of this course, it involves a significant amount of pair work and group activities. This course is not suitable for students who dislike such peer-based activities. 6) Students' participation in each class session will be assessed as part of their overall grade. Failure to participate actively and attentively in class activities will result in a mark deduction. 7) Official request for reasonable accommodation for participating in these activities should be submitted through the relevant university office.
