応用日本語(4)生活会話(L2)

This course is designed for students who have already acquired very basic communication skills. The aim of this course is to help students acquire communicative skills, especially listening and speaking skills,
using basic knowledge of Japanese which is necessary for on and off campus situations.
Specifically, by the end of the course, students are expected to be able to
1) communicate in a simple and direct exchange of information on social familiar matters,
2) put their acquired grammar and vocabulary knowledge into use with well-balanced accuracy, fluency
and complexity,
3) express their own ideas and opinions effectively using simple expressions,
4) suit the manner of speech to the person, situation and topic properly,
5) understand basic words and phrases on familiar matters and understand the main ideas of a little
complex messages,
6) learn communication strategies through interaction, and
7) develop self-monitoring of language use and autonomous learning abilities.

Week 1: Talking about oneself Week 2: Talking about weather Week 3: Going out with someone Week 4: Languages and cultures of other countries Week 5: Talking about your health Week 6: Celebrations and gatherings Week 7: Mid-Term Exam (Oral Interview Test) Week 8: Dinning out Week 9: Talking about travel Week 10: Talk about traditional events Week 11: Buying a replacement of something Week 12: Talking about historic places Week 13: Final Exam (Skit Performance)
授業の方法
Every session is composed of listening time and conversation time. To develop listening comprehension skills, students will have a lot of input and a variety of listening materials in every session and out of class assignments. To interact and communicate fluently and naturally in a given situation, student will have a great deal of oral practice, question and answer sessions, and other activities. After each session, task assignments (e.g. listening comprehension, vocabulary learning) will be given.
成績評価方法
The performance on following items will be taken into account for the course grade: 1) Participation in class activities 2) Assignments 3) Oral performances (including role play performances and presentations) 4) Quizzes 5) Exams Further details will be provided in the first class meeting.

Banno, E., & Ikeda, Y. et al. (2020) GENKI II: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese Third Edition. The Japan Times Publishing. Students are encouraged to self-study Lesson 13 - Lesson 17 of the reference book above during the semester.
履修上の注意
1) This course can ONLY be taken by the following groups of students: PEAK first-year G1, PEAK second-year, and KOMSTEP/USTEP L1 students ・In principle, the maximum number of students in this class is limited to fifteen. ・If enrolment exceeds capacity, priority is given to students who attend the first class meeting. Therefore, students interested in this class MUST ATTEND the first class meeting. ・Priority for registration will be given according to the students' status as follows: PEAK > KOMSTEP > USTEP 2) The first classes is held via Zoom meeting; see UTokyo-LMS or UTOL for Zoom meeting information. 3) In order to keep up with the coursework in this course, students need to have the same amount of knowledge as they would have in a comprehensive beginner Japanese class approximately equivalent to 4 credits outside of this course. In addition to this course, it is strongly recommended that students take the online Japanese courses offered by Japanese Language Education Division, Center for Global Education, UTokyo (Center for Japanese Language Education). 4) Quiz will start from 10:25AM sharp. Students must arrive in the classroom well in advance of the start of the quiz. 5) Active participation in each class is expected of all students enrolled in this course, regardless of the percentage of class participation listed in the grade breakdown. 6) This course includes pair and group work as well as class presentations. If students do not actively participate in these class activities, points will be deducted. Official request for reasonable accommodation for participating in these activities should be submitted through the relevant university office.
