世界文学と東アジアI(8)

Language, power, and identity in contemporary Japanese literature
This class focuses on the dynamics shaping the relationships among language, power, and identity, and their representation in literary texts written after the Second World War and until the beginning of the 21st century. It discusses issues such as national and world literature, invented traditions, globalisation, and multilingualism.
At the end of this course, the students will have sufficient information about the historical, social, and cultural background of the works read in class. They will have also learned various theories and analytical methodologies, which will allow them to engage with the texts in a critical way and reflect on their relevance in today’s world.
