Under the rubric of EAA Educational Philosophy and Statement (https://www.eaa.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp/*****), the course is designed to provide the venue to explore classics in political philosophy and political science. Students are expected to discuss given topics in depth in TA sessions.

We will choose two books (selected chapters from books) below in the first week of the class
Plato. Republic.
Alexis de Tocqueville. Democracy in America.
Ted Robert Gurr. 1970 (2016). Why Men Rebel (40th anniversary edition). Routledge.
Seymour Martin Lipset. 1960. Political Men: The Social Bases of Politics.
In addition to it, the class will discuss and pick up one more reading for the class.
