Modernity and Its Discontents
What is modernity? Why does it matter? Or rather, shall we satisfy ourselves by claiming for newly invented slogans of universality, pretending that modernity is no longer a crucial issue for understanding the world and for our self-udnerstanding? This course consists of series of conversations between the guest speakers and the lecturer. Each session focuses on a particular text or topic conerning modernity and its problems. Through these conversations and lectures, the participants are supposed to develop critical ideas as well as new perspectives about the problematic of modernity in terms of history, literature, and philosophy.
