グローバル教養特別演習II(10)
Studies on Globalization and Domestic Politics
This seminar explores the nexus between economic inequality, poverty, and the destabilization of the Liberal International Order (LIO). The course emphasizes the rigorous connection between theoretical frameworks and empirical (quantitative and qualitative) evidence through class discussions centered on cutting-edge academic articles. We will examine how cross-border flows of trade and capital create domestic winners and losers, and how, in turn, these internal distributional conflicts fuel political polarization, the rise of populism, and broader challenges to existing international rules, ultimately shaking the foundations of global economic governance.
By the end of the course, students will be expected to:
- Analyze the specific mechanisms through which global economic integration impacts domestic wealth distribution and poverty levels.
- Understand the theoretical linkages between domestic economic grievances (such as the decline of the middle class) and systemic shocks to the LIO.
- Critically evaluate the research designs and empirical methodologies utilized in advanced IPE literature.
