環境学フィールドワークI

Fieldwork to Examine Lessons from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster
This course is designed to provide students with opportunities to engage with real-world efforts addressing issues of sustainability and resilience. Its primary focus is on fieldwork in areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, where students will observe and experience ongoing processes of recovery and reconstruction.

The affected region continues to undertake a range of local initiatives, including the recovery and relocation of coastal communities, the commemoration of memories, experiences, and lessons from the disaster, and preparations for future disaster events.

Students are expected to examine current conditions and persistent challenges in the region, design and conduct short interviews with relevant individuals, and submit a final assignment based on insights gained from fieldwork and related literature.

The course instructor is a native of the affected Tohoku region and a geographer by training, bringing both local knowledge and academic expertise to the course.
