物質循環科学I

This PEAK course offers a descriptive, introductory overview of the climate system of the earth, with particular emphasis on typical thermal structure and circulation systems of the atmosphere (mainly the troposphere), to provide fundamental knowledge that is necessary for understanding how the mean state of the climate is determined globally and locally and how it responds to increasing greenhouse gases. In addition, atmospheric and oceanic processes and their interaction involved in the natural variability of our climate system are also discussed. If necessary, equations are used, but emphasis is placed on their physical interpretation rather than on their derivation.

Students are encouraged to take a complementary course "Materials, Systems and Dynamics IV", offered in the same semester.
