現代の環境問題

PBL Approaches to Contemporary Environmental Issues
This course explores how today’s complex, multi-scale socio-environmental issues are perceived, understood, and addressed by various actors (scientists, policymakers, the business community, technological innovators, opinion leaders, and citizen action groups) and different entities (from epistemic communities to institutional interfaces between science and politics).
Through interactive lectures and classroom discussions, students examine the influence of emerging narratives and associated conceptual frameworks on fundamental questions such as: How are so-called “contemporary environmental problems” actually defined? Who and what are considered relevant to causing and solving them? Which solutions are prioritized or dismissed, both formally (in legislation and policies) and informally (in practice)?
By working on a series of concrete case studies and preparing two mini-projects, students critically evaluate the effectiveness of existing science-policy interfaces and deepen their reflection on the crucial importance of framing issues for the development of more effective and inclusive solutions to environmental problems.
