文明論

Civilization and Technologies
The purpose of this course is to consider the relationship between science/technology and society in modern civilization. What is the influence of modern civilization based on science/technology? According to Ulrich Beck, the contemporary situation is a risk society, where people have to tackle the difficulties caused by science/technology itself. As Alvin Weinberg mentioned, questions on these difficulties can be asked of science and yet cannot be answered by science. What are the necessary conditions to realize better decision-making in such a situation?
