国際日本研究特論XXVI

History of Japanese Foreign Relations
This course investigates Japanese foreign relations from ancient to modern times. Students will not only study the major historical developments in these relations, but also learn how to analyze them from a range of perspectives. How did worldviews affect Japan’s foreign policies? How did the international system shape Japanese foreign relations? These are some of the questions we will discuss in this course. In addition, we will ask questions about the relevance of Japanese history for understanding Japan’s foreign relations today and for thinking about foreign policy more generally.
