国際日本研究文献演習I

Reading Basic Texts on JEA Studies I
This course is designed as a part of the process of writing a senior thesis for students in the Japan in East Asia program. In this course, each student is required to read several foundational books related to his/her senior thesis and write a term paper concerning them. The selection of the books will be made based on the discussion of each student and his/her thesis advisor. (If the thesis advisor agrees, this course can be used as an opportunity for a student to receive supervision on his/her senior thesis from the advisor.)

授業計画
At the beginning of the semester, each student will have a tutorial session with the program director and/or the curriculum manager and discuss the research area of his or her thesis. Based on this discussion, the course director or the curriculum manager will introduce the student to the professor who will supervise the student regarding this course. Then the student and the professor will meet and make a list of books for the student to read (usually five books). Each student is required to read them, have tutorial sessions with the professor occasionally (once every other week or every 3 weeks), and write a short paper on the assigned books.

履修上の注意
Basically, we expect that the advisor for Supervised Readings I will become your advisor for your senior thesis, as a mutual agreement between the professor (advisor) and the student. The students who entered the JEA in the 2018 S semester and after that need to take both Supervised Readings I and II in order to graduate.
