文化人類学特殊演習b(翻訳)

翻訳≠Translation
The aim of this seminar will be to consider "translation" as a contemporary socio-technical problem, as a linguistic practice, and as an anthropological challenge. We will explore key texts from anthropology, STS, translation studies, and beyond to understand what it means to "translate" today.

授業の方法
This course will consist of seminar discussions. Students will give brief presentations introducing the week's readings and several questions for discussion. All discussion will be in English or Japanese. We will make use of live AI-generated translations in class to facilitate discussion. Students are expected to read the texts without the use of AI, but may use published Japanese translations when available. The readings for weeks 6 and 7 will be determined during the first two weeks of class. We will choose either a translated text (novel, short story, or academic text) to read and discuss.
成績評価方法
Students will be evaluated based on their presentation, class participation, and a final paper.
履修上の注意
Students will be required to read all texts in English, but may refer to published translations when available. All classes will be held in-person, including the first class.
