日本語(34)アカデミック・ライティング(応用)(L4-L5)
Japanese (34): Academic Writing in Japanese (Intermediate) (L4-5)
This course is designed for students at the upper intermediate level of Japanese. The aim of the course is to improve students' WRITING SKILLS in academic contexts. Students will engage in a series of processes: setting up a research question on a certain field, summarizing and analyzing previous research, and discussing it in writing as a research paper. Throughout the process, students will learn the organization of the research paper and academic language use as well as the proper citation rules. At the end of the semester, students will complete an argumentative paper, or a literature-based report, that proves a claim with evidence. During the course, students are encouraged to actively participate in peer reviews which will strengthen their ability to revise their own writings. The writing process learned in this course can be applied to academic reports in Japanese at the undergraduate level, and will be the basis for thesis writing.
By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1) read academic articles critically,
2) formulate research questions based on their academic interests,
3) logically argue their opinions using evidence,
4) make a presentation to advocate their opinion and deepen the discussion through question and answer session,
5) write an argumentative report based on feedback from classmates and the instructor,
6) gain insights to revise what you have written, and
7) collaborate with others to deepen each other's ideas.
