Studies in Education and Technology: Experiments in Tech-Resistance
Do you control your smartphone, or does your smartphone control you? Do you think you waste valuable time scrolling SNS, or are perhaps even addicted to certain platforms? If so, you are not alone.

In this class we will explore research about the influence of smartphones and SNS on mental and physical health, consider debates about screens in schools and government policies to ban or restrict SNS for young people, and investigate burgeoning youth social movements of resistance to these pervasive technologies.

We will also create a supportive community to experiment with varying forms of tech-resistance (e.g. creating smartphone ‘friction’, ‘digital detox’, temporary app deletion, ‘cultivating ‘real world’ hobbies, etc.) and report on our experiences, with the goal of creating better habits for more healthy, intentional use of technology.

If you are interested in regaining or improving your relationship to your smartphone/SNS, (while also practicing your English) please join us.
