人口統計／Vital Statistics
今日わが国は世界に先駆けて人口減少、少子高齢を基調とした社会へと歴史的転換を経験しつつある。経済社会現象の基底には常に人口変動の働きがあり、現代を理解し将来を見通すためには、人口動向と経済社会の連動を正しく理解する必要がある。一方こうしたマクロ変動の正体は、人々の生活や人生の変化というミクロ変動である。人口統計学はその両変動を表裏一体に捉え、定量的に分析する社会科学である。本講義では、人口動態・構造変動ならびに結婚、出生、死亡、移住などを中心に、基礎概念、モデル、分析法の習得を通して現象の特性を学び、次いでわが国と世界が直面している歴史的人口変動の本質に目を向け、現代経済社会のシステム的理解とその将来の展望を得ることを目指す。
Today, ahead of the world, Japan is experiencing historical transformation to a society with constant population decline, and aging. Since the demographic process is always working at the base of economic and social changes, it is necessary to correctly understand the population trend and its linkages with socioeconomic changes for a better understanding of the contemporary world. The kernel of such macro changes is the aggregate of people's micro choices on their daily livings and life courses. Demography is a field of science that provides quantitative analyses of both macro and micro aspects of those processes. In this lecture, we learn the fundamental nature of demographic phenomena as well as life-course events such as marriage, birth, death, and migration, mastering basic concepts, models and analytical methods for them. Then focusing on the historical socioeconomic shifts facing Japan and the world, we aim to deeply understand the modern socioeconomic systems and its prospects.

実務経験と授業科目の関連性
教員は日本政府による公的将来推計人口の策定ならびに調査研究に携わり、当該推計・研究結果は授業の題材の一部として用いられる／The instructor has worked in the formulation of the official population projection and related research by the government. Those results are used as part of the subject of the lecture.
