Coastal Oceanography
Coastal ecosystems represent some of the most socially and ecologically significant components of marine systems due to their intimate relationship with human societies. However, these environments are particularly susceptible to anthropogenic pressures, resulting in severe degradation and an urgent need for conservation. This course seeks to enhance students’ understanding of marine environmental characteristics and marine biodiversity, with a focus on ecosystem types distinctive to coastal regions. By critically examining these systems, students will develop a deeper understanding of both direct and indirect human impacts on coastal environments, including those associated with climate change.
