Weird Fiction:
This course will consider the work of HP Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard two American writers of “weird fiction” in the early twentieth century. It will look at themes in their work such as the presentation of race and gender, as well as their use of horror and fantasy elements.
The course will consider theoretical approaches such as close reading, gender studies, and orientalism. It is intended to explore a popular genre of literature through these lenses, as well as offer a perspective of attitudes and discourses active in the early twentieth century in the
