Introduction to Buddhism: Buddhism and the Mind
This course will explore how Buddhists throughout history have understood the mind, how the mind works, how the mind interacts with and analyzes the world, and how to develop and train the mind. From the original goal of achieving liberation, to the modern movement to integrate mindfulness into different aspects of society, the mind has been a key concept in Buddhism, just as it has in other forms of philosophy. This course will look at Buddhist theories of the mind as depicted in literary and philosophical works, as well as how these have affected Buddhist practice from the past to the modern day.
