Academic WritingⅣ
アカデミック・ライティング４（中級）
This is an academic writing course for intermediate to high-intermediate learners of English. This course will start with expository essays, classification essays, process essays, and cause/effect essays. Next, we will explore extended definition essays, problem/solution essays, summary/response essays, and argumentative essays. In addition, we will examine the writing process and cover basic research and documentation skills. This course is designed to help students improve their English academic writing ability, with the ultimate goal of producing essays research papers in their own areas of interest.

The course will consist of the following 9 topics (not necessarily in this order):
1. Class introduction
2. Expository essays (Ch. 1)
3. Classification essays (Ch. 2)
4. Process essays (Ch. 3)
5. Cause/effect essays (Ch. 4)
6. Extended definition essays (Ch. 5)
7. Problem/solution essays (Ch. 6)
8. Summary/response essays (Ch. 7)
9. Argumentative essays (Ch. 8)
10. Research papers (Ch. 9)
11. Connection words and transition signals (Appendix)
12. Referencing/Documenting Sources (Appendix)
13. Giving academic presentations
授業の方法
Each class will consist of a short lecture with classroom activities (e.g., exercises, writing activities, peer reviews). The language of instruction will be English.
成績評価方法
Evaluation will be based on class participation (35%), writing assignments (40%) and a final writing project(25%).
