Polarization Diagnostics of Solar Magnetic Fields (偏光による太陽磁場の診断)

Lectures on diagnostics of solar and stellar magnetic fields using polarization measurements. Basic principles of polarized radiation from magnetized atmosphere as well as techniques to measure the polarized light are introduced. Recent progresses of solar magnetic fields are also presented. (偏光測定を使った太陽・恒星の磁場を診断する手法について講義する。磁場の存在する大気から放射される偏光やそれを測定する手法について解説し、磁場測定の装置や観測成果について近年の進展についても紹介する)

Biomass production by photosynthesis is a process in which light energy is captured and stored by an organism, and the stored energy is used to drive cellular processes. This remarkable process provides the foundation for essentially all life and has over geologic time profoundly altered the Earth itself. It provides all our food and most of our energy resources.    In this course, by treating photosynthetic organisms as primary producer in ecological system, I will introduce the principle mechanism and evolution of photosynthesis, environmental acclimation processes, and application aspects of photosynthesis. In addition, I will also introduce topics of genetically modified organisms (GMO) from aspects of production techniques, applications in agricultural fields, and regulation.

The objectives of this short course are to provide a brief overview of recent development (advancement) of low-temperature plasma science and technology in several highlighted areas. The lecture will cover on new insights of low-temperature plasma interface related with electronics, photonics, and material sciences which we never been there before. In addition, the process of technology transfer from an invention to real applications as well as experiences of becoming start-up entrepreneur will be introduced.

Interpretations of Globalisation

It is a now a truism that we inhabit a fast-moving world where corporations and trade are often international, while finance is global because of virtual flows that operate 24/7. Similarly, we are used to swirling media images and the global exchange of cultural artefacts, or a social reality in which tourism and migration are a part of our daily vista. Finally, we are aware of how state-centric politics is both supplemented and rivalled by the supra- and sub-national, whether in the shape of international organisations, global social movements or techno-scientific innovations and risks. Processes such as these make distance over space less of an obstacle, while the conflation of time increases interdependency and produces a burgeoning global imaginary. This course examines some of these issues through philosophical interpretations of globalisation and concomitant theories of war.

Aセメスターに開講 岩井 伸一郎教授(東北大学大学院理学研究科) The invention of chirped-pulse amplification (awarded the 2018 Novel prize) in picosecond time region has realized to capture the dynamics of atomic and molecular reactions. Thirty years after such development of the intense picosecond laser, pulse width of ultrashort laser has become shorter to several femtoseconds. It enables us to detect electronic motions interacting with lattice/ spin/ orbital degrees of freedom in solids. In this class, basic principles of wavelength conversion and their application to generations of ultrashort pulses in several femtosecond time scale. Ultrafast spectroscopy of photoinduced phase transitions and strong-light field effects in strongly correlated materials such as transition metal compounds and organic conductors are discussed. i) Introduction: What is a color of matter?(liner optics) ii) Nonlinear optics and wavelength conversion iii) How to generate ultrashort pulses, and ultrafast spectroscopy iv)Photoinduced phase transitions and strong light field effects in strongly correlated system. 2018年度ノーベル物理学賞を受賞した「高強度パルスレーザー光の発生方法」が開発された1980年代半ば、ピコ秒(1ピコ秒=10-12秒、一兆分の一秒)レーザーを用いた分光実験は原子や分子の運動をスナップショットとしてとらえることを可能にした。それから30年以上を経て、パルスレーザーの時間幅は、ピコ秒からフェムト秒(1フェムト秒=10-15秒;千兆分の一秒)へと短縮され、さらにアト秒(1アト秒=10-18秒;百京分の一秒)時間領域において(原子の1000倍速く動く)固体中の電子の動きを議論することも可能になりつつある。本講義では、非線形光学を用いた波長変換技術の基礎とそれを応用した超短パルス光の発生原理について述べた後、超短パルスレーザーを用いた時間分解分光の応用例として、強相関電子系における光誘起相転移や光強電場効果の現状を概観する。 i) 物質の色 (線形光学) ii) 非線形光学と波長変換 iii) 極短光パルスの発生法と超高速分光 iv) 強相関電子系における光誘起相転移と光強電場物理 藤井 正明教授(東京工業大学科学技術創成研究院) This lecture aims to show spectroscopy and dynamics of chemically important polyatomic molecules in gas phase. Following topics will be described. 1) Born-Oppenheimer approximation 2) Electronic transitions and various relaxation processes 3) Experimental technique for laser spectroscopy 4) Example of electronic and vibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules (including practice of spectral assignments) 本講義では化学で重要な大きな分子に対する分光を説明する。下記のトピックスを述べる予定である。 1)ボルンーオッペンハイマー近似 2)電子遷移と種々の緩和過程 3)レーザー分光の実験手段 4)多原子分子の電子および振動スペクトルの実例(スペクトル帰属の練習を含む)

光計測生命学特論 Lectures on Advanced Photon Life Sciences

生物は,光を感受しそれに応答することによって地球環境に適応している.また,植物が光をエネルギー源として生み出す有機物や酸素が,我々の生存を支えている.一方生物学研究に目を向けると,光を用いた様々な技術が,原子から個体レベルにいたる多様な階層の研究活動を支えている.光と生物の関係を様々な角度から捉えた最先端の研究について,演習を交えつつ概説する. Living organisms sense and respond to light in the environment. Organic molecules and oxygen, which are made by photosynthesis of plants, support our life. Light (or photons) is also utilized in a wide variety of research in biological sciences, for multiple layers of life from atoms to bodies. Lectures will be delivered on many topics on the relationship of life and light. Students are requested to submit a short paper (test) at the end of each lecture.
