国際金融・開発研究:経済学系(Development Economics II (Methods in Advanced Development Economics))

This graduate-level development economics course builds on theories of economic development and presents recent works on development, focusing on empirical approaches. The first part of the course provides brief overviews of recent debates on development and introduces empirical literature on growth, poverty, and inequality at macro and micro levels. Then, the course will present the selected individual factors which promote development, focusing on human capital, production and technology, productivity, and vulnerability to shocks including natural disasters. The last part considers the role of government. It will focus on recent papers on political economy and development public finance, particularly the evaluation of foreign aid and social assistance programs, infrastructure investments, redistributive policies, and regulations. The course introduces modern empirical methods of policy evaluations and helps students writing own research paper in development economics. This course is offered in English.
