Alumni of The University of Tokyo’s educational programs on sustainability (Youth Encounter on Sustainability - YES, Intensive Program in Sustainability Science – IPoS, and GPSS-GLI) get together and discuss how their experiences in studying sustainability in Japan have been useful (or useless), and what sustainability science education should do.
2) Business and Sustainability (15:00-18:00, November 11, Monday)
Dr. Arun Viswanath, Givaudan, Asia-Pacific Head & Global Sustainability Head, Fragrance Science & Technology
Givaudan is the world's largest Flavours and Fragrance company, headquartered in Geneva. Dr. Viswanath is in the Fragrance Division of Givaudan, and serves as the head for Asia Pacific. He has another role as Global Head of Sustainability for Science & Technology. Dr. Viswanath presents how a global company is striving to promote sustainability in their own business.
3) ESD and Indigenous Development (15:00-18:00, November 26, Tuesday; 6F Lecture Room)
Dr. Reiko IWASA, Representative, Amabe Bunka Kenkyusho (あまべ文化研究所) – An NPO working for regional environmental/sustainability education
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), a UN-based educational project that was conducted for the period of 2005-2014, was useful to disseminate the concept of global sustainability and promote relevant actions. However, indigenous wisdom has already existed for long time locally and they may have contributed to local sustainability. Dr. Iwasa may provide practical or conceptual foundation to connect global and local sustainability.
4) Religion and Sustainability (15:00-18:00, Tuesday, December 3; Lecture Room 6)

Three religious leaders discuss how a religion should interact with other religions, and how religions should change to become people’s spiritual home in the contemporary world. Students are welcome to join and give inputs to the discussion from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
5) Challenges of a Japanese Cuisine Chef (10:00-13:00, December 18; 6F Lounge (To be confirmed))
Mr. Zaiyu HASEGAWA, Chef of “Den”, Japanese Restaurant
“Den” is a world-renowned Japanese restaurant which won many prestigious international awards. Mr. Hasegawa is the owner-chef of “Den”, who has done collaborations with many renowned chefs internationally, accepts trainees from all over the world, and tries to contribute to cultural exchanges across the world through dissemination of Japanese cuisine. Students may have an opportunity to touch on his enthusiasm and passion.
