国際水産開発学特論 E (Global Fisheries Science and Economics (E))/ Global Fisheries Science and Economics (E)
Basic knowledge on fishery economics will be reviewed through lectures using various academic papers. The following topics will be covered:

1) The state of fisheries
2) Fisheries biology and stock assessment
3) Economic of overfishing
4) Right-based fishery management
5) Small-scale fishery
6) Bycatch
7) Seafood consumption and health
8) Eco-labels

授業計画
Intensive 2-day lecture classes is scheduled at Yayoi campus (wider Hongo campus area) at Agriculture Building 7B Room 231/232. Specific schedule is as follows: January 20, 2020 (Monday): 10:00am-18:00pm January 21, 2020 (Tuesday): 13:00pm-18:00pm ** IMPORTANT ** By the midnight of the day **before** each class day, students are required to submit a one-page short memo via email to "a-sakai@mail.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp". The memo should include three things: 1) Summary (topic, data, method, finding etc) of each of the three papers below , 2) Your comments on and questions about these papers, 3) Discussion topics (things that you want to discuss related to these papers) . These two memos together amount to 30% of the grade. Papers for the first memo (due 11:59 pm on Jan.19): 1) Worm, Boris, et al. "Rebuilding global fisheries." 成績評価方法
Two short memos (30%) Class participation (30%) Report (40%) A report subject will be announced in the class. Class participation is evaluated by class attendance and proactive participation for the discussion.

English is the primary language used in the lectures and discussions. More specifically, the lecture is given in English, with some supplemental remarks in Japanese if necessary.
