Innovations in Civil Engineering

Civil engineers have been confronted with social problems related to infrastructure development, while we are expected to pioneer new fields in which civil engineering could contribute to social innovation.
You students are expected to learn the abilities and knowledge of innovation workshop by practice. You will experience an innovation workshop to create new ideas for particular social problems. You will finally acquire the competency to practice innovation workshop to solve social problems in the real world, or to create a new research for the society.
Students will apply this abilities to the important issue of the global clean energy transition. In particular, students will think on the development of solutions to foster universal modern energy access with clean energy in developing countries, part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Climate Agreement.

授業計画
Students will experience a trial of innovation workshop to create a new idea of energy-related innovation based on your future scenario. Students are asked to analyze existing cases of innovation and enterprise and to create a new idea. The process of innovation workshop has been developed in the i.school. https://ischool.or.jp/
授業の方法
Note: This course does not allow “withdrawal”. If your grade does not reach 50, you will simply fail. Be careful of this condition when you register for this course.
成績評価方法
Attendance 30%, Short Report / Presentation 30%, Contribution to Innovation Workshop (required) 40%
