地域文化研究特別講義II

The first modern society? England 1603-1714
In this course students will study the history of England in the seventeenth century, and will discuss whether this was the crucial period in which ‘modern’ features of society emerged: features such as a political system based
on the sovereignty of the people; wide public participation in politics; religious freedom; and a strong military
state. Students will develop their understanding of an important early modern European society, and their
concepts of ‘modernity’ in western history.
