国際紛争研究

Introduction to International Conflicts
What is an international conflict? Will it be possible to discuss the origins of international conflicts in the abstract, or would it be that the distinct character of each conflict rules out theoretical abstraction? How, and in what way, can we relate the conflicts that we observe each day to the ones that have been studied in the past decades? Those are the questions that will guide our journey.
In this seminar, we will discuss various conceptual approaches to international conflicts. These approaches need not be new; many of them date back to the court diplomacy in post-medieval Europe, while others emerged out of the period following the end of the Cold War. Our purpose here will be to examine the utilities of old and new concepts in the light of present-day conflicts. Please be advised that this is an introductory course that only offers brief overview of the terrain in which international conflicts take place.
