数学史

The Mathematics of Claudius Ptolemy
We will begin by studying the social and intellectual context of Greek mathematics more generally, and then focus in on the mathematics found in the writings of Claudius Ptolemy, the Alexandrian astronomer of the 2nd century. Most of the class will be spent exploring various aspects of Ptolemy’s approach to mathematics.
