Knowledge and Intelligence
Behind our daily discoveries and creation of knowledge, processes and their complex interactions are running permanently, including knowledge representation, logical reasoning, communication, and conflicts. Understanding and managing this system of knowledge is an important essence for systems design and data based decision making.
In Part I, we start from preparing for discussions about representation of knowledge, reasoning on knowledge, and (re)structuring links among shared premises and intentions of stakeholders. These are important for decision making and system designs but tend to be overlooked via couplings and conflicts among different contexts and knowledge domains. Here let us learn, via discussions, about the basis of knowledge representation, non-monotonic reasoning and argumentation, and finally enter the world of data market, that is a social system for data based creative decision making.
In Part II, from the perspective of knowledge transfer and sharing the class focuses on knowledge description using some information models. Knowledge transfer and sharing is necessary to understand the knowledge of the others. Lecture introduces several information models to understand the description model according to the type of knowledge. Furthermore, structural analysis method is lectured to understand the deep knowledge of the described knowledge.
In Part III, from the perspective of knowledge use, the class focuses on how one makes decisions. The idea of preference is first lectured as the fundamentals of decision theory. Then, major theories such as expected utility hypothesis, prospect theory, and game theory are lectured.
