化学特別講義IX

35606-1114 化学特別講義IX Special Lecture on Advanced Chemistry IX

The Department of Chemistry and the three chemistry-related departments at
the Graduate School of Engineering (Department of Applied Chemistry,
Department of Chemical System Engineering, and Department of Chemistry and
Biotechnology) jointly provide lectures on cutting-edge fields of
chemistry, with the goal of transcending the boundary between science and
engineering to enhance education and foster young researchers with global
perspectives. Lectures will be given by invited professors from abroad and
specialists from Japan.

Synopsis:
This short intensive course introduces students to the basic principles of molecular imaging and nanomedicine. Emphasis will be on cancer molecular imaging probe design and nanoparticles for diagnosis and drug/gene delivery as theranostics. The course will also give some insights about how to write scientific papers.

授業計画
(Schedule) Lecture 1: General principles of molecular imaging. Different molecular imaging modalities (radionuclide, optical, magnetic) will be introduced and the future of the field will be discussed. Lecture 2: Integrin targeted multimodality imaging: Cell adhesion molecule integrin alpha(v)beta(3) is a key target in tumor angiogenesis. How to image integrin expression by different modalities will be exemplified. Lecture 3: Evans blue based theranostics. The concept of theranostics will be introduced. Evans blue dye that binds effectively with serum protein albumin will be used as a strategy for functional imaging and development of therapeutics. Lecture 4: Cancer nanotheranostics. The introduction of nanostructures for in vitro diagnosis, in vivo imaging and cancer therapy. Surface plasmon resonance and plasmonic coupling phenomena will be introduced and various gold nanoparticle based clusters and vesicles will be described. Lecture 5: How to write a scientific paper. Being an author and editor, this lecture will provide some insights on how to prepare a quality manuscript, appeal a decision and address review comments. The importance of research ethics will also be emphasized. Lecture 6 (Zasshikai Lecture): Cancer Theranostics. Theranostics (Rx/Dx) aims to develop molecular diagnostic tests and targeted therapeutics with the goals of individualizing treatment by targeting therapy to an individual's specific disease subtype and genetic profile. This talk will give examples of designing nanobiosensors for ultrasensitive biomarker detection in vitro, applying molecular imaging techniques for in vivo measurement of cancer hallmarks, and making nanoparticle platforms for co-delivery of imaging labels and therapeutic genes and drug molecules.
