(Shionoya) The aim of this series of lectures is to overview the roles of metal ions in biological systems and to explain the structure-function relationships in metallo-enzymes and nucleic acid-metal complexes in detail. In addition, comparison of enzymatic reactions vs artificial reactions will be discussed, taking examples of activation of small molecules. 1) Biogenic metal ions and cofactors 2) Structures and functions of active centers of metallo-enzymes 3) Interactions between nucleic acids and metals 4) Activation of small molecules (Yamanoi) The lectures deal with the topics on the chemical modification of the electrode surface. Design, structure, and properties of chemically modified electrodes are outlined. Synthesis and properties of metal nanoclusters are also described. 1) Preparation of chemically modified electrode 2) Characterization of chemically modified electrode 3) Properties of chemically modified electrode 4) Synthesis and properties of metal nanoclusters
