Frontier of Sustainability Science サステイナビリティ学最前線(2)

This course is designed to learn a great variety of researches conducted at the frontier of “Sustainability Science”, through the latest research outcomes of Sustainability Science Consortium (SSC). SSC was established to develop sustainability research, education, and public outreach programs and to strengthen coordination between national and local government, corporations, NPOs and other organizations while developing practical measures for technological innovation and social transformation (http://ssc-g.net/en/). By understanding a variety of academic fields related to sustainability and interactions among them, students will come to take part in the process of integrating multiple academic disciplines to implement sustainability science approach.

The main purpose of this course is to provide master’s and doctoral students with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with key concepts and principal research methodologies of Sustainability Science through lectures and systematic reading of Sustainability Science literature. By doing so, the students will be expected to deepen their understanding of various trends, as well as frontier issues, in Sustainability Science research

Targeted learning outcomes of this course are two-fold, (i) to develop familiarity with key concepts and principal methodological approaches in Sustainability Science, (ii) to deepen understanding of trends and frontier issues in Sustainability Science.

This course aims to introduce students to some of the major current debates around the issues of environment and development and to conceptual frameworks to analyze them. The course lectures mostly draw on the frameworks of economics (environmental economics and development economics), but the course discussions will touch on a broad range of aspects on sustainable development policies not limited to economic ones.

The main purpose of this course is to provide doctoral students with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with key concepts and principal research methodologies of Sustainability Science through systematic reading and surveying of Sustainability Science literature. By doing so, the students will be expected to deepen their understanding of various trends, as well as frontier issues, in Sustainability Science research.

Targeted learning outcomes of this course are three-fold, (i) to develop familiarity with key concepts and principal methodological approaches in Sustainability Science, (ii) to deepen understanding of trends and frontier issues in Sustainability Science, and (iii) to improve skills for conducting literature survey.

気候変化は人類が直面する主要な問題の一つである。技術の発展はその緩和と適応に資する一方で、気候変化の科学的理解は政策決定にとって不可欠である。この講義の目的は、気候変化についての科学的枠組みを理解することである。そのための基礎として現在気候の成り立ちの物理的理解は不可欠であり、これを概観する。その後、放射強制力およびそれに対する気候応答の考え方を解説する。 Climate change is a problem that the entire humanity is facing. While technological development can be helpful for adaptation and mitigation, understanding mechanism of climate change is essential for policymaking. The purpose of this course is to understand the scientific framework for climate change. Basic physics for formation of the present climate is essential for this purpose and is thus offered. Then we will introduce ideas of radiative forcing and climate responses.

国連の「持続可能な開発目標(SDGs)」や気候変動問題の解決を目指した「パリ協定」といった議論が進む中で、製造業では安価で性能の良いモノを提供するだけではなく、持続可能性(サステナビリティ)に資する新しいものづくりが求められている。本講義では、持続可能性の実現に向けたものづくりを俯瞰的・多面的に理解するための学問である「サステナビリティ設計論」について概観し、これからのものづくりを考えるために必要となる基本的視座および知識を習得することを目的とする。例えば、環境と経済の両立を可能とするような製品・サービスの設計方法、ビジネスの設計方法、エネルギーシステムの設計方法などについて、事例をもとに理解を深める。本講義では、座学で学んだ手法・ツールの実践的な運用能力を獲得するために、演習ないしはグループワークを組み合わせた形式をとる。
